Week 3 2025 CGA Power Rankings & Schedule

Each week we’ll release a “Power Rankings” that aims to provide a fluid picture of how each team across the NCAA is doing at the moment and where NCAA men’s gymnastics experts see them heading. The (+) or (-) next to each team relates to how far they rose or fell from the week before. This year’s Power Rankings are developed with input from major gymnastics publications including the CGA Coaches Poll, Inside Gymnastics, and Gymnastics Now.

With season in full swing, week 3 began with an ECAC matchup in Indianola, Iowa with Navy (306.35) taking on their host, Simpson College (297.75). Consistency throughout kept Navy ahead of Simpson. The Simpson Storm claimed four event titles, highlighted by a school record on vault (14.35) with Braxton Jones’ Kaz 1.5.

Action continued as Olympian Fred Richard made his season debut for Michigan (318.05) in a tri-meet where the Wolverines overtook Army (307.05) and host, Springfield (299.55). Michigan won 5 of 6 event titles highlighted by Charlie Larson’s (14.05) floor, Carson Eshleman’s (14.1) rings, and Richard’s (13.85) high bar. The lone title not claimed by a Wolverine was pommel horse, which was won by Army’s Maddox Pabellon (14.0).

Penn State (313.9) continued their 2025 campaign in a decisive home victory over William & Mary (296.2). The Nittany Lions swept event titles. Matthew Underhill dominated rings (14.1), as is characteristic this year for him. Michael Jaroh (13.9) and Josh Karnes (13.5) rounded out the meet with exciting routines on parallel bars and high bar.

Arguably the marquee matchup of the weekend was #4 Illinois’ visit to #2 Oklahoma in which the Sooners (330.7) put up a national season high score to defeat the Illini (325.5). Illinois’ Brandon Dang (14.5) took down CGA All-Star champion Ignacio Yockers (14.3) on pommel horse. Oklahoma outperformed the Illini on rings, led by freshman Francisco Velez Belendez (14.1) and Matthew Burgoyne (14.1). Kelton Christiansen put up a national season high score on high bar to claim the title in that event.

To close out the weekend, Ohio State (323.0) upset Stanford (319.85) and outscored Cal (310.2) at the Stanford Open in Palo Alto. Taylor Burkhart (83.9) was the star of the evening. His all-around performance outscored the next closest all-around scored this year by over three points. However, the entertainment of the competition was not exclusively at the hands of Burkhart. Kameron Nelson continues to show floor (14.6) and vault (14.55) mastery this season. Stanford’s Brandon Nguyen (14.0) put together a stylish parallel bars routine to win the event title, and Buckeye, Caden Spencer showed yet again, how powerful he is on high bar (13.85)

Below are links to each of Taylor Burkhart’s routines from his record setting performance.

Floor: (14.35) | Pommel Horse: (14.3) | Rings: (13.65) | Vault: (14.3) | Parallel bars: (13.5) | High Bar: (13.85)
