Week 2 2025 CGA Power Rankings & Schedule

The (+) or (-) next to each team relates to how far they rose or fell from the week before. Week two kicked off with a dual meet in the midwest between Greenville (303.15) and Ohio State (319.7) in which the Buckeyes improved upon their strong start to the season. Kameron Nelson impressed yet again with flashy floor and vault routines en route to claiming titles on both events. Parker Thackston added another strong data point for those talking about the pommel horse battle that’s brewing this season. Parallel bars and high bar were the Caden Spencer show. Spencer is tied for achieving the highest score on high bar so far this year.
The excitement of Friday night was foreshadowing for a weekend filled with multi-team invitationals. The Navy Open saw William & Mary (306.15) upset Springfield (305.3) and Navy (303.15). The Windy City Invite surprised with a big victory for Illinois (321.7) over Michigan (316.6). In Colorado the Rocky Mountain Open featured the highest scoring teams of the season as Stanford (328.85) beat Oklahoma (327.2) and Nebraska (320.45), followed by Air Force (311.55) and Simpson (291.15).
Rounding out the weekend was a dual meet between Penn State (316.6) and Army (306.5). West Point’s Maddox Pabellon continued his consistency streak on pommel horse (14.) to win the title. Rings was dominated by Penn State’s Matthew Underhill (14.2) - the third highest score and the event so far this year.
Many season high scores were achieved over the weekend. The pommel horse battle alluded to earlier is heating up. Eight athletes have hit over 14.0 on the event so far. Air Force’s Patrick Hoopes (14.95) holds the highest score thus far. Illinois’ Brandon Dang (14.7) isn’t far behind, and Thackston has hit a score that's just half a tenth behind. Michigan Freshman Aaronson Mansberger (14.45) entered the conversation on horse as well tying Oklahoma star, Igancio Yockers’ season high. Illinois’ Preston Ngai, brother of 2016 NCAA pommel horse champion Brandon Ngai put up a (14.35) to enter the conversation.
Other notable routines from the past weekend include Asher Hong’s rings (14.85). Vaults from Taylor Burkhart (14.75), Amari Sewell (14.45), Garrett Schooley (14.45), and Chase Mondi (14.35). On parallel bars, Michigan’s Logan McKeown showed big gymnastics as did Stanford’s Colt Walker and Ian Lasic-Ellis.
