2025 Week 1 Power Rankings & Schedule

Each week we’ll release a “Power Rankings” that aims to provide a fluid picture of how each team across the NCAA is doing at the moment and where NCAA men’s gymnastics experts see them heading. The (+) or (-) next to each team relates to how far they rose or fell from the week before. This year’s Power Rankings are developed with input from major gymnastics publications including the CGA Coaches Poll, Inside Gymnastics, and Gymnastics Now.

Four contests occurred over the weekend starting on Friday the 10th with the team competition at the West Point Open. Ohio State (315.8) opened the season on a high note with a big win over Penn State (312.75) and a field of ECAC programs. Navy (309.5) rounded out the podium, closely followed by Army (308.3). William & Mary (300.45) edged out Springfield (300.05).

Ohio State’s Kameron Nelson was the clear star of the show, making gymnastics history by performing two triple back flipping skills in one routine. He also put on a strong all-around performance, which qualified him for the Winter Cup . Nelson’s teammate Drake Andrews also put on a show earning himself a place at Winter Cup.

Saturday brought us a contest between Michigan, Greenville, and Simpson in Ann Arbor. Michigan (310.9) easily took the team title over Greenville (299.0) followed by Simpson (287.4). Carson Eshleman won two event titles one on rings (13.4) and the other on high bar (13.5) to lead the Wolverines to victory.

The weekend slate of competitions continued on Sunday. Air Force (299.0) traveled to Oklahoma (318.2) to take on the Sooners who easily defended their gym. The story of this competition was the pommel horse battle between OU’s Ignacio Yockers (14.45) and Air Force’s Patty Hoopes (14.35). It’s worth noting that Ohio State’s Parker Thackston put up at 14.5 on pommel horse at the West Point Open - this year is already promising some exciting pommel horse battles.

The excitement continued Monday night on the West Coast with Stanford and Cal. The Cardinal (318.45) traveled to Berkeley (303.95) and sailed to victory. Taylor Burkhart and Colt Walker tied for the all-around title scoring (80.4).
