Week 10 Power Rankings & Schedule

Each week we’ll be releasing a “Power Rankings” that aims to provide a fluid picture of how each team across the NCAA is doing at the moment and where we see them heading. The (+) or (-) next to each team relates to how far they rose or fell from the week before.

This year’s Power Rankings are developed utilizing the NCAA coaches poll as well as input from major gymnastics publications including the CGA, Inside Gymnastics, Gymnastics Now, College Gym News, and Gymcastic.

March 16, 2023

This week Stanford put up the biggest team score we’ve seen thus far with a (423.55) to take down both Navy (395.3) and Air Force (389.55) at the Naval Academy to further solidify their hold on the top of the rankings.

Navy and Air Force last met at the All-Academy Championships where Air Force took the top spot, but this weekend the Midshipmen reversed that result by defeating the Falcons.

Another big contest was fought out in Columbus between Oklahoma (410.0), Penn State (404.45) and Ohio State (397.6). The Sooners came in as favorites and held on to defeat the Nittany Lions and the Buckeyes.

The Big Ten has had a lot of mixed results this season as teams throughout the conference continue to register as upsets. Last week Ohio State put up a team score much larger than Penn State did, but this week in a head to head match up, the Buckeyes were easily defeated by their Big Ten foe.

On the West Coast, Cal (399.3) hosted Army (390.15) and William & Mary (384.2), where the Bears ran away with the victory. This was a season best performance for Cal and both Army and William & Mary put out strong showings.

In Big Ten regular season action, the Illini (411.55) took on a powerful Husker (395.25.) team on senior night and came away with their season high score. Illinois put on a clinic in consistency, hitting all 30 routines.

As championship season approaches, it is still very unclear where the cards will fall. Only 5 teams have eclipsed the 410 scoring point and surprising results seem to be a normalcy. The standings continue to change significantly from week to week. It is an exciting time to be an NCAA men’s gymnastics fan. We are due for unpredictable and high quality conference championships in the coming weeks.
