Week 7 Power Rankings & Schedule

All-Academy Title Goes to Air Force, Close Call for Oklahoma in Lincoln, Springfield Steps up to the Plate

Each week we’ll be releasing a “Power Rankings” that aims to provide a fluid picture of how each team across the NCAA is doing at the moment and where we see them heading. The (+) or (-) next to each team relates to how far they rose or fell from the week before.

This year’s Power Rankings are developed utilizing the NCAA coaches poll as well as input from major gymnastics publications including the CGA, Inside Gymnastics, Gymnastics Now, College Gym News, and Gymcastic.

In the lead up to Winter Cup there were far fewer contests this past weekend, but each one was a show filled with drama.

In neutral territory, Air Force (396.55) showed that they can put up impressive numbers to take down reigning All-Academy champions, Navy (393.0). Army was not far behind at (389.15). This was one of the closest All-Academy Championships in a long time, and highlighted the strength of the Academies this year.

Oklahoma (418.25) and Nebraska (417.65) also had a showdown this past weekend in Lincoln. This contest came down to the last routine. This was the Husker’s best performance this year by quite a bit and sets them up well for the second half of the season. Oklahoma showed that their recent high scoring tear is not an accident. The Sooners are really good this year and are showing the level of consistency that they are known for.

In a virtual matchup Cal (381.2) defeated Springfield College (376.35). For most of the competition the two were battling back and forth from event to event. A rough vault rotation for the Pride allowed Cal to pull ahead. Both teams will look to improve upon this weekend’s performance as they fight to maintain control of NCAA team qualifying positions.

This weekend is Winter Cup and no team competitions will be held, thus power rankings will not be updated until the following week of competition starting March 3rd. Below is the full slate of contests that will kick off the second half of the season.
