Week 10 Power Rankings
Every week we’ll be releasing a “Power Rankings” that aims to provide a fluid picture of how each team across the NCAA is doing at the moment and where we see them heading. The (+) or (-) next to each team relates to how far they rose or fell from the week before.
This year’s Power Rankings are the top teams in each association based on the average individual rankings of three individuals:
Bailey Perez (former Stanford gymnast)
Ben Cooperman (former Penn State gymnast)
Max Soifer (former Washington gymnast)
NCAA
1. Stanford (-)
A massive performance from the Cardinal this weekend further solidified Stanford’s ranking as the number one team in the country this year. Thom Glielmi’s team put up a 419, the highest team score of the year thus far. Brody Malone had a big day, taking home three event titles en route to an MPSF Gymnast of the Week nod. Freshman Nick Kuebler also put up this year’s second highest floor score for the event title and his first CGA Rookie of the Week honor. Stanford has yet to put up its strongest lineups, which should be a scary thought for any team looking to challenge for the NCAA crown.

2. Michigan (+1)
After Paul Juda’s big weekend, Michigan jumps ahead of the Sooners to secure the number two spot. The other week nine storyline for Coach Xiao’s team was the return of Cameron Bock. When healthy, Bock is one of the top all-arounders in the country. It was getting so late in the season, however, that it was no longer a guarantee that he’d be back in the lineups before time was up. It looks like he’s back and even when not 100%, Bock is a huge addition for this team heading into the postseason.

3. Oklahoma (-1)
After posting their lowest score of the season (400.90), Oklahoma drops to number three in the rankings. Although the Sooners had a very uncharacteristic performance that we probably won’t see again moving forward, the now number two ranked Michigan put up a score that OU has only surpassed one time this season. They will be looking to redeem themselves in their home meet this weekend against Ohio State, and you can guarantee that they will be fighting to breach the 410+ mark and overtake Michigan once again.
This weekend: Ohio State @ Oklahoma Saturday, March 12 at 7pm

4. Nebraska (-)
A home win against Big Ten rival Illinois keeps Nebraska ranked fourth this week. A season high score on senior night was the perfect end to a home career for Jake Bonnay and Charlie Giles who claimed the floor and vault titles respectively. Heading into the postseason Nebraska is solidly ranked second in the Big Ten. The return of Cameron Bock for Michigan makes the job of taking home the Big Ten crown more challenging for the Huskers. In addition, Illinois looks to be just on their heels.
This weekend: Army, Nebraska @ Air Force Saturday, March 12 at 1pm

5. Illinois (-)
The Illini have quietly been stringing together an impressive season, with marquee wins against Penn State and Ohio State. They had a chance to add to their resume in Lincoln in week nine, but were unable to pull off the upset. As a result, Illinois looks to be firmly behind Nebraska and Michigan heading into the postseason but in the five up, five count format, anyone can win any given day.

6. Ohio State (-)
The Buckeyes’ 397.20 was enough to overtake Penn State in their dual meet this past weekend, but it was far behind that of number five Illinois who broke the 405 mark. Ohio State is yet to break that number this season and will be needing significant improvements to do so. As they head to Oklahoma this weekend, they will be looking to push their team score and offer a challenge to Illinois for the number five spot.

7. Cal (-)
Cal’s score may have dropped a bit since their last outing, but the 390.50 that they put up this weekend was enough to keep the Bears ranked seventh. Cal has featured a clean and consistent style this season and it has paid dividends. The Bears may not have the highest start values, but their head coach JT Okada clearly knows the rules well and utilizes them to his team’s advantage. Going into postseason play, Cal is ranked comfortably in the third slot in the MPSF, and with a solid performance during the first day at NCAAs, might be able to sneak into the super six.

8. Penn State (-)
Penn State has been unable to put together a big performance this year; their best day being a close loss to Illinois. The Nittany Lions look to be the laggard in the Big Ten at this point in the season and are more closely aligned with the likes of Cal and Navy. Make no mistake, this team has an impressive roster, they simply have not all been able to execute on the same day.
This weekend: Springfield @ Penn State Saturday, March 12 at 4pm

9. Navy (-)
Navy holds their number nine spot after having the weekend off. In their last performance on February 20th they had one of their lower scores of the season and they will be looking to improve upon that as they face off against W&M this Saturday on the road.

10. Army (-)
In their home contest with Michigan and William & Mary, Army put up a solid 384.10 to maintain their tenth place spot in the rankings. The Black Knights gave their star senior, Mathew Davis, the week off after his impressive showing at Winter Cup. Even without their highest scoring athlete, Army was able to put up big numbers and easily defeat their ECAC foe, the Tribe. Moving into postseason, Army looks to be the second best team in the ECAC behind Navy and is in a comfortable spot to qualify as a team to NCAAs.
This weekend: Army, Nebraska @ Air Force Saturday, March 12 at 1pm
How to watch:
11. Air Force (+1)
It has been an inconsistent year for Air Force, but they were able to post a season high 380.60 in week nine. The talent of this roster more than anything else has allowed them to rise in the rankings. If they can put it all together in one of the remaining meets this year, they could post a surprise score. Nothing thus far has indicated that is likely to happen.
This weekend: Army, Nebraska @ Air Force Saturday, March 12 at 1pm
How to watch:
12. William & Mary (+1)
After taking down Springfield this past weekend with their 377.80, the Tribe jump to number 12 in the rankings. Although it wasn’t W&M’s highest score of the season, it added to their resume of scores around the 380 mark. This consistency is surely helping their confidence and they are slowly creeping closer to passing number 11 Air Force. They will have the chance to do so this weekend with a big score in their home match-up against Navy.
This weekend: Navy @ W&M Saturday, March 12 at 2pm
How to watch: Virtius
13. Springfield (-2)
Back-to-back lackluster performances and with the Tribe and the Falcons on the rise has pushed Springfield back two spots this week. They will head to State College, Pennsylvania this coming and look to get back on track.
This weekend: Springfield @ Penn State Saturday, March 12 at 4pm

GymACT
1. Arizona (+1)
A big weekend against So Cal United in which Arizona Men’s Gymnastics put up a 384.75, was enough to boost the team back to the top of the GymACT standings. It looks like AMG is back in their groove after some early season struggles. The team will challenge Iowa to take the top spot at USAG Championships on March 25th if they are able to continue putting up similar performances. Hunter Brunett and Jordan Williams led the way this weekend for head coach Scott Barclay.
2. Iowa (-1)
With Arizona returning to form and stringing together a couple of solid performances, Iowa drops behind them in the rankings. Arizona is certainly a deeper team than the Hawkeyes, but the combination of Evan Davis and James Friedman should not be discounted heading late into the season. The battle between these two teams at USAG Nationals will be one to watch.
This weekend: Iowa @ Washington Friday, March 11 at 9pm
How to watch:
3. Washington (-)
The Huskies remain in the number three spot after having the weekend off. They have a high stakes matchup this weekend as they host Iowa at home. Although Iowa’s season high is much stronger than that of Washington, the Huskies showed significant improvement in their last competition proving that they are on the up. They have had several weeks off which was most definitely used to clean up and work on execution before this critical upcoming competition.
This weekend: Iowa @ Washington Friday, March 11 at 9pm
How to watch:
4. Minnesota (-)
A solid weekend for the Golden Gophers held Minnesota in fourth place in the GymACT standings. A 358.50 is slightly below what this team is capable of but was enough to keep them ahead of Temple. Minnesota is going to need to step it up a little bit to catch up to Washington to make it onto the podium come USAG Championships, but so far this team has held its own in its first year as a GymACT program.
5. Temple (-)
Temple has been off for some time and will not return to competition until March 19th.
6. Northern Illinois (-)
Northern Illinois posted a 354.50 this past weekend which topped that of UIC in their dual meet, but it was not enough to move up in the rankings. The Huskies will use the next few weeks to clean up before heading into the USAG Nationals on March 25th.
7. SC United (-)
A 353.90 against Arizona was enough to keep SCU in seventh place in the rankings. Continued improvement this season for SoCal is encouraging and it won’t take much more improvement to move past NIU who scored less than a point higher than SCU this past weekend. SoCal United will look to move up in the rankings when they take on the rest of the GymACT at USAG Championships on March 25th.
8. Rocky Mountain (-)
Rocky Mountain has a few weeks off and will return to competition March 19th.
9. UIC (-)
UIC’s 333.30 last weekend was a significant jump from their February 5th competition, but it was not enough to overtake number eight Rocky Mountain. They will hit the competition floor one last time on March 25th for the USAG Nationals.
10. NY Alliance (-1)
NYA will return to action on March 25th for USAG Nationals.
11. Georgia United (-)
A rough day for Georgia United against the New York Alliance did not impact their ranking and the team held onto their 11th spot in the GymACT for another week. GU will be back in action on March 19th against Temple where they aim to qualify for the USAG Championships the following week.
12. KC United (-)
After a lean 2022 regular season, KC United will wrap up the year at USAG Nationals on March 25th.
