Week 4 Power Rankings & Schedule
Teams Stay Steady After a Light Week Three
Every week we’ll be releasing a “Power Rankings” that aims to provide a fluid picture of how each team across the NCAA is doing at the moment and where we see them heading. The (+) or (-) next to each team relates to how far they rose or fell from the week before.
This year’s Power Rankings are the top teams in each association based on the average individual rankings of three individuals:
Bailey Perez (former Stanford gymnast)
Ben Cooperman (former Penn State gymnast)
Max Soifer (former Washington gymnast)
NCAA
1. Stanford (-)
Without a competition this past weekend, Stanford retained their status as number one in CGA’s power rankings. This coming weekend’s matchup between the Sooners, the Cardinal, and the Golden Bears is one of the most anticipated contests in the first half of the season. The upcoming showdown in Palo Alto may foreshadow some of what is to come this spring during postseason competition.
This weekend: Cal & OU @ Stanford Saturday, Jan 29 at 7pm

2. Oklahoma (-)
After another strong showing, OU stays firm in the number two spot behind Stanford. The Sooners will head to the Stanford Open this weekend to try and take down the reigning NCAA Champions for a second time this season. Should this happen, it will be tough to consider Oklahoma as the underdog moving forward.

3. Michigan (+1)
Michigan jumps to the number three spot before heading into a tough battle against Nebraska at home this weekend. Several key contributors including Paul Juda and Jacob Moore just made their season debuts at the Windy City Invite a few weeks back, so we should expect their contributions to greatly improve as they head into Saturday. The Wolverines will be looking to hold their ground in order to prove that they deserve to be the highest ranked team in the B1G.

4. Nebraska (-1)
Nebraska dropped to the fourth spot in this week’s power rankings after a weekend away from the action. This upcoming Saturday will feature a standoff between the Huskers and Big Ten foe, Michigan, for the third spot in the rankings.

5. Ohio State (-)
After coming just shy of the 400 mark this past weekend, Ohio State will have a week off to refine routines before heading to Illinois. Behind the performance of Trevor Cummings, Ohio State is ranked number one in the country on pommel horse. If their other lineups can come closer to the form of their pommel horse rotation, the Buckeyes could shock some other teams this season.
6. Illinois (-)
The Illini had a bye week this past weekend, helping them retain their number six spot. However, they will be fighting to hold this position as they take on number seven ranked Penn State on Saturday. Illinois had a sub-par performance on pommel horse at their first competition, and they will need to make some pivotal adjustments on this event if they are looking to hold off the Nittany Lions on the road.
This weekend: Illinois @ Penn State Saturday, Jan 29 at 4pm

7. Penn State (-)
An up and down showing at the Navy Open held Penn State in their seventh spot. Had this past weekend’s contest with Navy not gone down to the wire, it is likely that the Nittany Lions would have climbed in the rankings. The failure of Penn State to blow out the ECAC schools either shows a strong improvement from throughout the ECAC or early season struggles from PSU. This weekend, Randy Jepson and his team will face Illinois at home for a spot in the top six.

8. Navy (-)
Navy spends another week looking up at Penn State after just barely falling to them this past weekend. This team looks great and certainly has a tremendous talent in Isaiah Drake, who just won CGA Co-Gymnast of the Week. The Midshipmen have struggled on pommel horse so far in 2022, an event they have been good on in recent years. Kip Simons will look to make adjustments, significantly raising this team’s ceiling as the season goes on.
This weekend: W&M @ Navy Saturday, Jan 29 at 2pm
How to watch: TBD
9. Cal (-)
The Golden Bears hold the number nine spot in our rankings after having a bye week. Cal will be heading across the Bay on Saturday, where they will be looking to greatly improve upon their 382.10 at the Stanford Open.

10. Army (-)
A week off for the Army resulted in the Black Knights retaining their number ten spot in the power rankings this week. Army will face off against Springfield College in Massachusetts this coming weekend in what could prove to be a very significant matchup for the ECAC foes.
This weekend: Army @ Springfield Sunday, Jan 30 at 1pm

11. Springfield (-)
Springfield took a step back this past Saturday at the Navy Open, coming in at almost six points shy of their season debut. They will look to get back on track this weekend in their home opener.

12. William & Mary (-)
This past weekend, W&M improved on their season high by a little over five points at the Navy Open. They showed strong progress on rings, p bars, and high bar, but continued to struggle on floor and pommel horse. They will be looking to make adjustments on their two weaker events as they take on Navy this weekend in Annapolis.
This weekend: W&M @ Navy Saturday, Jan 29 at 2pm
How to watch: TBD
13. Air Force (-)
After struggling to fill lineups in their first week of competition, Air Force put together a full meet at Oklahoma. They are still far off their lows of 2021 but will presumably get closer to those numbers as their roster gets healthier.
GymACT
1. Iowa (-)
A week off for Iowa resulted in the Hawkeyes holding on to their number one spot in the GymACT. Iowa will face off with Minnesota in Minneapolis this weekend. This meet may feel a bit nostalgic as it will be the first dual meet for Minnesota and Iowa since they both lost varsity status after last season.

2. Arizona State (-)
ASU was off this past weekend and will jump back into the fray this Saturday at the Emerald City Classic in Kansas.

3. Washington (-)
Washington holds the number three spot in the GymACT rankings and will not appear on the competition floor again until February 4th, when they will host the PAC-12 invite.
4. Minnesota (-)
Minnesota retained their fourth spot this week after a bye. The Gophers will host Iowa this weekend in what would have been a regularly scheduled Big Ten matchup before both University athletic departments declined to retain funding for their historic men’s gymnastics teams.
This weekend: Iowa @ Minnesota Saturday, Jan 29 at 7pm
How to watch: TBD
5. Temple (-)
Temple had another strong showing at the Navy Open, coming up just shy of their 2022 season high. They will take on both UIC and NY Alliance this weekend, where they will be favored to take home the victory.
This weekend: Temple & UIC @ NY Alliance Saturday, Jan 29 at 7pm
How to watch: TBD
6. SC United (-)

How to watch: TBD
8. Northern Illinois (-)
Northern Illinois holds the number eight spot in the rankings and will be off until February 5th.
