Week 2: Power Rankings
Every week we’ll be releasing a “Power Rankings” that aims to provide a fluid picture of how each team across the NCAA is doing at the moment. The idea is to try not to focus too much on scores and look more at the current state of the team. The (+) or (-) next to each team relates to how far they rose or fell from last week’s Power Rankings.
This year’s Power Rankings are an average based on the individual rankings of four individuals:
Bailey Perez (former Stanford gymnast)
Ben Cooperman (former Penn State gymnast)
Jess Frankl (photographer/CGA Social Media Director)
Max Soifer (former Washington gymnast)
1. Stanford (-)
Stanford has not yet competed, but still remains in the no. 1 spot as their strikingly talented team patiently waits to get on the competition floor.
2. OU (-)
Coming off of another strong 410+ performance, the Sooner’s maintain their no. 2 spot in the power rankings. OU will look to take over the no. 1 spot after this weekend’s virtual dual with Army.
This weekend: Army, Oklahoma (Virtual) Saturday, Jan 30 at 4:00PMEST

3. Michigan (-)
The strong opening performance will be all we will see from Michigan over a three week period due to their pandemic induced pause. While there are many unknowns, it feels fairly safe to say that the Wolverines will still be a top three team by the time they are back competing.
4. Nebraska (-)
Nebraska was scheduled to battle it out against Michigan this past weekend, but the competition was unfortunately cancelled due to Michigan’s pause on all athletic activities. For now, the Huskers remain in training mode until they face off against Penn State on February 7th.
5. Illinois (+2)
After myriad mistakes week 1, Illinois came back week 2 with a performance more reminiscent of what we are used to seeing from them. The Illini moved up two spots to 5th in this week’s power rankings. This weekend Illinois will take on the Nittany Lions at Penn State where they will continue their charge to move up in the rankings.

A strong opening performance in Champaign was enough to push the Buckeyes up two spots in the rankings. Justin Ah Chow picked up right where he left off and is joined by a handful of other talents on this young team. Ohio State will compete virtually this weekend against Navy.
