PRESS RELEASE: The 2021 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics season kicks off this afternoon after an offseason full of uncertainty.  Behind the scenes, a multitude of people were working hard on a contingency plan just in case teams would not be able to square off face to face.  As mentioned in our season preview, the season will take place in a hybrid format.  Fortunately, athletes will get the traditional competition experience with some virtual meets mixed in.

The CGA will work this year with Virtius to host 18 virtual competitions between NCAA/GymACT teams.

*The website is still under development, so for this weekend, you will need to create a login, then check back in a bit and use the correct link for each streamed competition. Those links can be found on RoadtoNationals.com.

What is Virtius?

Virtius is an online competition software created by Stanford Alum to provide the NCAA and GymACT the ability to compete virtually from their respective home gyms.

How will it work?

Teams will stream their routines utilizing the platform competing the same lineups as they would in any traditional meet.  Judges will live score the routines from anywhere in the country and immediately submit their entries in real time.  Each team will have an in person meet referee present to ensure all competition standards are met.  The scores and results of these meets hold the exact same weight as any in person competition.

How and when can I watch?

These meets can easily be watched by logging into the Virtius platform.  The inaugural competition will take place today at 4:30pm EST between the University of Illinois and Northern Illinois University.  Army and Penn State will face off at 1:00pm EST on Saturday and Michigan and UIC at 1:00pm EST on Sunday.  Be sure to visit any of the CGA social media sites weekly to see which meets will be taking place on Virtius.

The 2021 season will look a little bit different, but Virtius provides teams all over the country the ability to perform at the highest level even in the midst of a pandemic.
