2016 Preseason Coaches Poll
View full poll here Minneapolis, Mn - The College Gymnastics Association announced the results of the 2016 Preseason NCAA Men's Gymnastics Coaches Poll and the University of Oklahoma sits atop the poll with 373 points and 14 first place votes. Oklahoma won the NCAA Team Title in 2015 in dominant fashion with an undefeated season and a healthy 7 point margin over 2015 NCAA Team Runner-Up Stanford who enters the 2016 campaign ranked 3rd with 337 points and 2 first place votes. The Ohio State Buckeyes made an impressive leap finishing the presseason polls in 2nd place with 340 points and 2 first place votes. The Buckeyes will be hosting the 2016 NCAA Championships on April 15 & 16, 2016 in Columbus, OH and they certainly hope the trend continues of the host team being crowned National Champions. Michigan hosted in 2014 and won their 6th team title while Oklahoma hosted in 2015 and came away with their 9th team title. The Buckeyes will be battling for their 4th team title in program history.
Rounding out the top 6 are 4th place Penn State (303 points), 5th place Michigan (302 points), and 6th place Illinois (285 points and 1 first place vote). Penn State is atop the list of programs with 12 National Team Titles in program history and will be in pursuit of lucky number 13. Illinois ranks second in the number of team titles with 10 and will be looking to add to that impressive list.
The 2016 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Season gets underway on January 9, 2016 with several dual meets but the season will get into full swing the following weekend with several early season invitational/open meets on the weekend of January 16/17, 2016 including the Rocky Mountain Open held at Air Force Academy, the West Point Open held at the U.S. Military Academy, the Windy City Invitational held at Illinois-Chicago, the Cal Benefit Cup held at Cal-Berkeley, and the State Open held at William & Mary.
"This will be another great season of collegiate gymnastics culminating in the NCAA Championships being held in Columbus, OH at Ohio State University," said CGA President and University of Minnesota head coach Mike Burns. "The level of talent and precision never fails to amaze me every year in our sport and I hope all the fans of collegiate gymnastics will make a serious effort to be on hand on Saturday, April 16, 2016 to cheer on their favorite teams and witness another incredible competition. There's nothing like this meet anywhere in the world. The team spirit is off the charts as each gymnast is out their fighting for every tenth of a point. You won't want to miss this year's meet!"
